Kingfisher Airlines Airbus makes maiden landing at Visakhapatnam Airport

144 seater Airbus takes trial runway

A medium ranger airliner, Airbus A319 was brought from Kingfisher Airlines to test the conditions for operation of wide bodied aircraft like Boeing and Airbus and Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Airport on Tuesday. The plane returned after competing the calibration on the evening. This paved way for giving final approval for commissioning of the airport expansion project that comprises facilities for night landing of bigger aircraft and round the clock operability.

The Airbus A319 can accommodate nearly 130 passengers and it is the biggest plane of any kind that that landed at the Visakhapatnam Airport. The Airport Advisory Committee is meeting at Vaisakhi Jala Udyanavanam on Wed to discuss the airport expansion project with focus on round the clock operations.

Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam MP N. Janardhana Reddy has once again met the Union Minister for Defence AK Antony at New Delhi on Tuesday and requested him to inaugurate the expansion project at the earliest so that it can be readied before the monsoon arrives.
