Imposition prohibitory orders decried
The Bhu poratam programme of the CPI (M) led to the arrest of a large number of leaders and activists of the party on Saturday. The police arrested them as they tried to occupy government lands at Arilova, Hanumanthwaka, Gajuwaka and other areas. A large number of policemen was stationed right from the early morning on Saturday at Arilova to arrest the CPM workers. The arrested leaders and activists were sent to police stations.
The CPI (M) City Committee secretary K Lokanadham condemned the foisting of false cases against those who participated in the agitation. He deplored the imposition of prohibitory orders and issue of warnings to the people against participating in the agitation. He further said that the State Government had not issued pattas to the poor even three years after coming to power but was protecting the lands of the people's representatives and unscrupulous persons. The police arrested 228 party activists on Saturday. While 61 of them were sent for remand, the rest were released on bail on giving personal security.
