Work costing Rs. 2 crore to begin in a couple of daysThe Railway is taking up a Rs. 2 core work in the next couple of days to lay new platform nos. 7 and 8 in the Visakhapatnam Railway Station and is expected to be completed by June according to reliable sources.
The 600-metre long platforms with width of 10.5 metres could allow trains upto 24 coaches. Sources close said that it would cost Rs. 1 crore to lay the actual platform structure. For construction of roof to a length of 150 metes, laying floor, providing water, electrical, and other facilities would cost another Rs. 1 crore. Once it is completed, the Visakhapatnam Railway Station would set the record of having three platforms within a year.
This is the third biggest station in Andhra Pradesh after completion of these two platforms followed by Hyderabad and Vijayawada each having ten platforms. As of now, all the platforms could accommodate trains with 24 coaches. The platforms from 1 to 6 were constructed to take care of even longer trains.
