Department to conduct street to street surveyThe service tax department will conduct street-to-street survey in the city during the month of March to find out the unregistered taxable service providers. Central excise, customs and service tax commissioners of Visakhapatnam in Commissionerate R. Sakuntala said that they would track those who re not paying service tax.
She said the service providers to get registered and pay the outstanding tax dues to avoid penal action. The Commissioner said the service tax for the quarter ending March 2007 has to be paid by March 31 as per the Service Tax Rules.
If the tax is not paid by the due date, interest at the rate of 13 percent has to be paid along with any penalty imposed by the department, she said and asked the taxpayers to cooperate with them in this regard.
