Revised VUDA Master plan to boost growth
The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) is preparing a ground for implementing the revised master plan with a vision for the next fifteen years. The master plan envisages development of eight satellite townships to reduce the pressure on the already congested areas of the city. Estimates say that the city population will reach 35 lakhs in the next 15 years to come.
These townships will be the centres of economic growth with markets, schools, hospitals and post offices etc., apart from residential complexes and varied economic activities. At present the city has investment commitments worth Rs. 50,000 crores and the projects are at various stages of implementation. VUDA and GVMC have identified 23 roads measuring about 155km for development as links to the future growth centers. VUDA will have integrated Special Economic Zone in Kakinada-Visakhapatnam corridor as a major growth stimulant.
Viziangaram, Bheemunipatnam and Anakapalle will be integrated with Visakhapatnam city by creating a number of growth centres and residential settlements. In another aspect, Visakhapatnam Port and he upcoming port at Gangavaram are expected to handle 140 million tons of cargo by 2021 according to estimates.
