Rs.75 crore for welfare of fishermen
Speaking at a review meeting at Fisheries Survey of India office, the Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy, M Buddaprasad said that Rs. 75 crores for welfare of fishermen in the State under the new Chief Minister's Matsyakranthi Pathakam. He said under the scheme, all the necessary infrastructural facilities would be provided to fishermen along with many welfare schemes. He called for chalking out plans where the income would match the investments. He announced that each self help group would be extended financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh from this year.
The Minister announced that 100 community halls would be built all over the State and advised the officials to identify the land for the purpose. He advised the officials to ensure that identity cards were issued for fishermen flocks as it would enable providing relief with ease in case of any eventuality.
The Minister instructed the District Collector to look into the problem of drinking water and lighting at the fishing harbor and take necessary corrective steps. The Fishermen Commissioner N Narasimha Rao who was in the meeting advised the officials to take are of the problems faced during the implementation of various schemes in the past should not be repeated.
