Subbirami Reddy flags off Air Deccan flight
The Union Minister of State for Mines T Subbi Rami Reddy on Friday an Air Deccan ATR 72 flight to Bhubaneswar on the newly constructed 10,000 foot long and 60 metre wide new run way at the Visakhapatnam airport. The Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah MLAs S Rangaraju, T Seetharam, K Dharmasri, P Mangapathi Rao and T Gurumurthy along with the District Collector Anil Kumar Singhal, Police Commissioner VSK Kaumudi and other top officials were present on the occasion.
He said that he was planning to hold a formal function to mark the inauguration of the new runway and availability of Instrument Landing System (ILS) and night landing facilities at the airport by inviting the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy and Defence Minister, AK Anthony and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. Speaking at the program, Varada Reddy recalled that Former Lok Sabha Speaker GMC Balayogi has put in a lot of effort to get the necessary nod for modernization of the airport. He said that the then Defence Minister George Fernandez too has responded in positive. Considering this, Chodavaram MLA Ghanta Srinivasa Rao suggested that the airport be renamed on the name of GMC Balayogi.
The Chairman of Infra Projects Private Limited M Venkata Rao whose firm has constructed the new runway and other facilities said the all-weather runway had come up after three year long civil works which include construction of apron, parking facilities apart from others. He said that there is a separate isolation bay for six civilian flights instead of two at present and a separate parking facilities for naval flights.
