CPI continues its Bhooporatam
The CPI activists struggle for Bhooporatam turned violent on Thursday. The police resorted to lathi charge to prevent them from storming the Collector's office. The Party district secretary JV Satyanarayana Murty, city branch secretary Ch Raghavendra Rao and others sustained injuries in the scuffle.
Hundreds of party works belonging to CPI and poor people reached the Collector's office at 9am and squatted in front of the main gate. After about an half an hour, the agitators grew restive and made a vain bid to enter the office premises, which was foiled by the police. They beat up the agitators and took at least 40 persons including the party leaders into custody to prevent the situation from deteriorating.
The agitators staged a rasta roko at Jagadamba junction protesting against the oppression by police and seeking release of the arrested people. Murty addressing the gathering vowed to intensify the agitation if the government fails to make necessary changes to Koneru Ranga Rao Committee report and implement int in six months. He demanded that each poor family to be allotted one hectare of agricultural land and house sites of three cents.
