Visakhapatnam, June 8, 2007

Five persons injured

Two employees of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) and three contract workers of a private company were injured on Friday in a blast at VSP due to spilling of hot slag on moist ground according to a press release. It stated that a slag crust ruptured when ladle No.22 was dumping liquid steel causing the slag to fall on the moist ground resulting the blast.

The injured were immediately shifted to hospital. However, there is no damage to the equipment and production loss, the release stated.

State Commission for SCs and STs Chairman M Nagarjuna visited the VSP and held discussions with the management an representatives of SC and ST Welfare Association. He also interacted with the Chairman and Managing Director of VSP PK Bishnoi.
