Project cost put at Rs. 107 crores to be executed within 27 months
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) signed a contract agreement with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for erection of a turbo blower to supply air for combustion in the blast furnaces. BHEL is executing the contract along with its consortium partner M/s Man Turbo of Germany. While the main blower is under the purview of Man Turbo, the turbine will be manufactured at Hyderabad by BHEL.
The capacity of the blower is 4,18,000 normal cubic metre per hour and it will consume about 40 megawatts. The cost of the project is Rs.107 crore and is to be executed within 27 months to coincide with the commission of blast furnace.
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Executive Director (Projects) AK Banerjee and Prakash Vir signed the agreement on behalf of VSP, Man turbo and BHEL respectively.
