Large number of women participates
The urban unit of Telugu Desam Party organized a dharna in front of the Collectorate on Thursday against the spiraling prices of essential commodities and vegetables. A large number of women participated in the dharna. The party arranged a vegetable shop and also hung vegetables to a rope tied between two polls to indicate that the commodities were going out of reach of the common man. A banner was put up to explain how the prices doubled during the recent years.
TDP leaders addressed the gathering and criticized the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy for failure to control prices of essential commodities. President of Greater Visakha Unit of TDP Zaheer Ahmed presided.
The TDP leaders and corporators followed by party workers tried to enter the Collectorate premises but were stopped by the police at the main gate. However, a delegation of leaders were permitted to allow inside to submit a memorandum to the District Collector.
