Assassination of Hukumpeta ZPTC necessitated the election
At a special meeting of Visakhapatnam Zilla Parishad held on Wednesday elected U Somalingam, ZPTC member of Sattipalli in Chintapalle mandal has been elected unopposed as Vice Chairman of Visakhapatnam Zilla Parishad. The election was necessitated as a result of the assassination of Hukumpeta ZPTC S Ravi Shankar by Naxals.
The election on Wednesday was conducted by the ZP Chief Executive Officer P Rama Rao, 22 of the 23 Congress ZPTC members attended the meeting while 14 ZPTCs of Telugu Desam Party and CPI and CPI(M) did not attend the meeting. Later, the newly elected Vice-Chairman took oath pledging loyalty to the Constitution.
The newly elected ZPTC member of Hukumpeta S Chinni also took oath. District Revenue Officer S Satyanarayana was present on the occasion. The police officials have made elaborate arrangements to avert any untoward incident as a precautionary measure.
