TDP MLA Ch Venkata Rao detained for holding up traffic
The police lathi charged the Telugu Desam Party activists and also detained MLA Changla Venkata Rao for holding up traffic on the National Highway in front of the police station at Payakaraopet on Sunday. The activists led by the MLA staged a rasta roko following the expiry of the dead line to the ultimatum issued by the MLA to the State Government to take action against the officials for damage caused to two mini reservoirs being built on the Tandava riverbed.
The police booked cases against Ch Venkata Rao under various IPC sections for obstructing traffic on the national highway. The traffic was held up on both sides of Payakaraopet up to a distance of nearly 20kms.
The request made by the police to the MLA who refused to listen to call off the protest, some of the people who were held up in the traffic blamed the police for not taking acting against the protesters and also raised slogans against the MLA. The police left with not alternative except to use lathi charge to disperse the crowd and also took some of the protesters into custody. The SP Akun Sabharwal confirmed that cases had been registered against the MLA and others as per rules for holding up traffic.
