NTPC Chairman and CMD of VSP singed the MoU
The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the holding company of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Saturday signed an MoU for setting up of a 150 MW lean gas based combined cycle power plant. NTPC Chairman and Managing Director T Sankaralingam and RINL CMD PK Bishoni signed the agreement.
According to the MoU the power required by RINL would be supplied by the joint venture company being established as NTPC-RINL Power Company Ltd., The NTPC will have the management control of the project. The benefits of GTCC technology are higher efficiency in terms of power generation and clean environment in the context of global warming. He GTCC technology is the latest for utilizing the low calorific value lean gases and it envisages efficient utilization of large quantity of surplus gas available at the Steel Plant.
RINL is operating at 120 percent of its rated capacity with annual production of 3.6 million tons of liquid steel. It is expected to touch 6.3 million tons by 2008 and 16 million tons by 2017. NTPC Simhadri Thermal Power Project General Manager R Venkateswaran, RINL directors HS Chhatwal and Y Manohar were present on the occasion.
