136 bottles of Corex cough syrup seized
Some Chemists and Druggists have switched to smuggling habit-forming drugs from boarder districts of Orissa and Chhattisgarh due to the ever rising demand for the sedatives in the North Coastal districts. Corex and Phensedyl cough syrups containing codeine phosphate apart from Fortwin injections which are used for relief of acute paid are are being found to be smuggled in large numbers.
Sources reveal that some drug addicts and chemists formed a trading network to import such drugs from the neighboring states without sale records or bills. These drugs are transported in small quantities by a courier from bordering districts in APSRTC buses or private vehicles. These will be distributed to the medical shops and sold to only addicts whoa are known to the medical store owners at a higher prices.
In a joint operation conducted recently by the Task Force Police and District Drug Control Officials, the owner of a medical shop owner at Allipuram was arrested.
