Gurella squad member arrested
The State wide bandh call given by Maoists on Monday disrupted the normal life in the Agency areas of north coastal Andhra districts. However, no major incidents were reported. A large number of police personnel were deployed in the Agency areas and coming was intensified in GK Veedhi, Chintappali and Paderu ands of the district.
During the combing operations, the police arrested one Korra Pandanna of Galikonda local guerrilla squad near Lankapakala village of GK Mandal when he was digging pits apparently to plan land mines The police recovered a kit bag containing a land mine, literature and Maoists letters wee also seized from him.
The police beefed up security in all governmental properties in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam in view of the possibility of attacks by Maoists. Political leaders were advised to restrain from moving in rural areas. The bandh was called by the Maoists to register their protest against the alleged fake encounter of CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member S Rajamouli in Anantapur district.
