The Golden Jubilee celebrations of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) Visakha Refinery kick started at the Waltair Park Auditorium on Thursday. HPCL Chairman and Managing Director, Arun Balakrishnan unveiled the logo for the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, he congratulated the employees , past and present of Visakha Refinery who contributed for its success and growth.

The Executive Director of the Visakha Refinery AS Rao welcomed the gathering and highlighted the growth of the refinery over the last fifty years. The General Manager of Visakha Refinery (Operations) detailed the activities like photo exhibition, sports and quiz competitions to children of the schools, blood donation camp and other programmes.

HPCL Visakha Refinery in 1957 as Caltex Oil Refining India Ltd., which was then the first major industry in Visakhapatnam and the first refinery on the east cost of India. The Central Government in 1976 has taken over and subsequently merged with HPCL, the takeover transforming it into a mega public sector unit in the city.
