MLA Chengala Venkata Rao assaults police constable
Pandemonium prevailed at the District Review Committee meeting on Tuesday and a case was booked against the Payakaraopet MLA Chengala Venkata Rao for assaulting a police constable and for obstructing a government servant while discharging his duties. The meeting plunged into chaos when the TDP leaders insisted that the Jindal bauxite mining project be discussed before taking up a scheduled agenda.
The MLA snatched papers from ZP Chief Executive Officer P Rama Rao and manhandled the constable who was in mufti to make his point. This act created wrath of in charge Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana who was presided the meeting. Upset over the action of the MLA's behavior, the officials also boycotted the meeting which ultimately adjourned before it could transact any business. The officials demanded that the MLA tender a written apology to them but of no avail.
Just after the meeting began, the Minister directed the officials to proceed with the prescribed agenda. But the MLA in question intervened to say that issues to supply of Godavari Water to Jindal refinery and bauxite mining be discussed before taking up the agenda. The minister said that the issued raised by the MLA did not figure in the agenda and would not be allowed for discussion. The MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Anakapalli MLA P Chalapati Rao along with Chengala Venkata Rao argued to seek clarifications from the District Collector to whom they sent letters, the District Collector said that he would submit the details later. Heated exchanges ensued between the Minister and TDP members and at this point of time, the MLA assaulted a police constable.
