Bandh observed in protest against arrest of CPI(M) leaders
The bandh call given by CPI(M) and Telugu Desam Party on Saturday evoked near total response. The protest was against the arrest of the CPI (M) leaders and activists on Friday when they tried to take over and distributed 29.17 aces of land in the town alleged occupied by the a close relative of the Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konatala Rama Krishna.
CPI(M), CPI and TDP leaders asserted that they would occupy all he vacant pieces of Government land and distribute them to the poor. All shops and business establishments including education institutions were closed and the APSRTC buses did not ply on the roads. The Superintendent of Police, Akun Sabharwal visited Anakapalli.
The CPI(M) district secretary submitted a memorandum to the District Collector on Saturday demanding that the government to distribute lands in Phool Bagh under the occupation of the relatives of the minister. Viziangaram DSP KK Chary, programme Officer SVV Prasada Rao, and several other police officers were present on the occasion.
