Untoward incident in Jagannahda Radha Yatra
The celebrations of Lord Jagannahda Radha Yatra in the One town was marred by the death of an armed reserve constable, K Trinath Reddy. The top portion of the 'Gopuram' of Jagannahda Ratham collapsed on his causing serious injuries to him and the incident resulted in a minor stampede leading to injuries to some of the devotees.
A large number of devotees participated in the Radha Yatra on Monday. The constable was deputed on law and order duty on the occasion and was moving behind the Ratham. Soon after the procession stared, a part of the Gopuram hit the overhead electric wires and collapsed injuring him severally who shifted immediately to hospital where he was declared dead. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against the organizing committee.
The Chief Festival Officer Babji Rao said that permissions were taken from all the officials concerned to organize the celebrations. The Ratham was used only after it was certified as fit for procession by the deputy engineer of Roads and Buildings department.
