Protests against Congress discriminationThe Zilla Parishad Standing Committee Meeting held here on Wednesday took a serious turn with the TDP MLAs erecting tents outside the ZP office in the night after the meeting ended protesting against the discriminatory attitude of the ZP Chairman G. Gurumurthy Naidu and Congress members.
After intense arguments with the Congress members over the alleged discrimination in making financial allocations for development works in their assembly, the TDP MLAs and ZPTC walked out of the meeting. The police entered into the scene when the TDP MLAs and members prevented the ZP Chairman from leaving the meeting venue.
The entire trouble started when Payakaraopta MLA Ch. Vengala Rao alleged that the chairman was making meager allocations for the constituencies of the TDP MLAs as they were in opposition. He pointed out that sufficient funds used to be allotted to the Congress MLAs and Congress during their rule. Sharply reacting over his comment, District Congress Committee chairman Gandi Babji and Madugula MLA K. Dharmasree raised their voice against the TDP men. The TDP leader later came out of the hall and staged a dharna on the ZP office premises near the Gandhi Statue and raised slogans against the Commercial Tax Minister, Konathala Ramakrishna and Chief Minister accusing them of partisanship.
