Keeping land grabbers at bayIn view of the threat from the land grabbers to Simhachalam Devasthanam lands, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam is contemplating to auction its lands in prime areas in and around Visakhapatnam. The Devasthanam is also forming a ‘Land Protection Force’ exclusively to safe guard the Devasthanam lands. According to sources, it is appointing 40 retired Army officials including a retired official of Captain cadre officer to supervise the lands and protect them from encroachments.
The existing temple guards are presently safeguarding the temple lands would assist the LPF personnel. The Executive Officer of the Simhachalam Devasthanam, V. Shankar Reddy said that despite the lands are being guarded by their personnel, some lands were being encroached.
Meanwhile, in a surprise raid, the Devasthanam officials retained about 20 acres of Devasthanam lands worth over Rs. 80 crores at Kallukonda in Muralinagar on Friday. A team of officials led by the Executive Officer retained the lands and guards were deployed to prevent them from the threat of land sharks. It is already known that real estate prices have zoomed in the city of late, thanks to much hype created with the news of car factory and IT Service giants starting their centres in the city.
