Operation conducted in coordination with Vijayawada InspectorsThe Drug Control administration in coordination with Vijayawada Inspectors in the city on Tuesday and launched a prosecution against the proprietor of Arjuna Medicals and Arjuna Pharmaceuticals on the charge of illegally stocking a large numbers of Rexcof cough syrup manufactured by CIPLA. In the raid, it was found that the retail chemist shops were purchasing substantial stocks of the cough syrup through distributors Vamsi Pharma and Mayur Drugs in Vijayawada.
The Drug Control Inspector Ravi Uday Bhaskar said, one of the constituents of cough syrup is the habit forming drug that falls under the narcotic drugs category. He said that the raid was conducted in coordination with drugs inspectors K. Raja Bhanu and MPR Prasad. On enquiry, the proprietor of Arjuna medicals has confessed to selling cough syrup to drug addicts in the city.
Following investigations, it has been found that the sale value that Arjuna Pharmaceuticals purchased more than 15,000 bottles of Rexcof between April 29, 2006 to January 18, 2007 valued more than Rs. 9 lakhs. They had supplied the entire stocks without issuing sale bills and also failed to produce records of purchase. Uday Bhaskar said under Rules of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940, prescription drugs can be sold only on the prescription of a registered pharmacist.
