Police banned public meetings, allies and any form of agitationCPM workers were lathi charged by police during their struggle for lands in Gajuwaka. The police beat the agitators when the latter tied to occupy government and assigned lands. Similar situation prevailed at Pendurty and Gopalapatnam areas under the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation limits, where some of the agitators sustained minor injuries.
The CPM district secretary Ch Narasinga Rao said that there was no clue regarding the whereabouts of the arrested agitators and when they would be produced in the court. On this issue, the party would go for agitation infornt of the Mandal Revenue Offices concerned on January 3 to mount pressure on the government to distribute lands to the poor.
In the light of the above situation, the police banned public meetings, allies and any form of agitation in Gopalapatnam, Pendurty, Arilova and Gajuwaka. The prohibitory orders would be in force till January 15 and those intending to hold such meetings, rallies etc., can do so with the prior permission of the police department.
