MLA MA Gafoor arrested along with 194 agitatorsThe Left parties’ agitation for house sites took a serious turn with the arrest of Kurnool MLA MA Gafoor (CPM) and 194 other CPM leaders and workers at Gajuwaka on Wednesday and was released in the evening. When they reached the Gajuwaka Mandal Revenue Office, police took them into custody to ensure that the situation does not deteriorate. Tension prevailed as hundreds of agitators made a vain bid to prevent the police from taking them into custody. The police also arrested important leaders on Tuesday night as a precautionary measure.
Like wise situation prevailed at Pendurty and Gopalapatnam where the police arrested AIDWA State secretary Swarajya Lakshmi and CPM leader B. Ananta Lakshmi along with eight others when they tried to stage rasta rokos at different places. However, the agitators were not allowed to go anywhere near the Mandal Revenue Office which they wanted to picket.
A large number of police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order. Police however, successfully foiled the agitation by blocking the roads leading to Government lands at Chingadili and took scores of agitators who came in a huge number by auto rickshaws and other means of transport. All of them were confined to Hanumanatavka and however, mild force used to disperse the mob.
