Opposition demands unconditional release of arrested leadersThe Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Urban district president CMA Zaheer Ahmed speaking to media on Thursday said that overwhelming response and turnout of the poor to occupy the government lands, reflected the Congress Government rule in the State. The Opposition leaders of all parties demanded immediate release of those arrested in the agitation for house sites unconditionally.
CPM district secretariat member V. Padmanabha Raju said that it was quite unfortunate that the police did not give them permission to take out rallies and meetings near the MRO offices though they were agitating peacefully. He alleged that the police illegally slapped cases and lodged 113 persons including 70 women in the central prison since Thursday. He condemned the remarks made by the Revenue Minister, Dharmana Prasada Rao that the Communists were trying to derive political mileage from the agitation for lands in view of the ensuing elections for Grater Visakha Municipal Corporation.
CPML representative Lakshmi said that the government was trying to divert the issue by showing it as a law and order problem and demanded for the immediate release of the arrested leaders and activists.
