Thousands take rally in mandal headquartersThe tribal people in the agency areas of the district observed bandh on Wednesday protesting the State Government's negligence in ensuring remunerative prices for their produce supplied to the Girijan Cooperative Corporation and other agencies. Thousands of tribals took out rallies in all mandal headquarters under the aegis of Andhra Pradesh Girijana Sangham and Left parties.
The main contention was to the Government was paying them less for the forest produce but selling the same at high prices in the market. They also charged the Government of not preventing the middlemen from exploiting them.
The Andhra Pradesh Girijana Sangham leaders regretted that the GCC did not take steps to ensure the remunerative prices even after they took out a huge rally in Visakhapatnam and submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Government They warned of intensifying the agitation if the Government fails of alleviating their plight.
