Thousands of devotees of Lord Shiva took part in the ‘Maha Sivaratri’ festival that was being organized by TSR Kalapeetm at Ramakrishna Beach. Union Minister of State for Mines T Subbirami Reddy himself conducted special rituals and invoked the blessings of Lord Shiva. He performed 'Maha Kumbahishekam' on the occasion.

A massive 'Siva lingam' comprising hundreds of small lingams was conserted at the beach attracted huge crowds. Temples of Lord Shiva in the city brimming with activity. The festivities continued through out the day and night. Devotees observed fast and performed rituals and abhishekams with piety amidst chanting Vedic hymns.

It is interesting that the staunch cricket fans also performed rituals praying for the victory of Indian team in the one-day International Cricket match to be played between India and Sri Lanka on February 17.
