Says fixing charges on everything will hurt publicThe CPM demanded that the Congress should go to the public with reforms like water meters and property tax in the GVMC elections and accept the verdict as a referendum on its rule. Speaking to media, CPM State Committee member Ch. Babu Rao charged with the Chief Minister's statement that reforms were compulsory to get funds.
He mentioned that the Government released the GOs 511 and 512 to increase property taxes in all municipalities and corporations from April 1, 2007 and is trying to hit it during elections. He opined that the conditions placed in agreements with the World Bank and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission would affect the lives of the people in the state immensely.
He wanted the State Government's decision to fix charges for everything and backtrack from its responsibility of providing basic facilities are dangerous. He criticized that the State Government has failed in implementing the 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments that were aimed at vesting more administrative powers and funds to the local bodies.
