Demands Rs. 2000 crore allocation for weaker sectionsThe Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State secretary, K. Lakshman speaking to media that the party would organize a 'Chalo Assembly' agitation on March 5. On Wednesday, he demanded allocation of Rs. 2000 crore for the welfare of the backward and weaker sections in the Budget 2007-08. The party along with thousands of workers would storm the Assembly if the Government fails to concede the demand.
He said that the Government defaulted the payment of rent for 900 hostels including those of BCs, SCs and STs for several years. Due to the failure of the Government, nearly four lakh BC students were affected.
Speaking on the GVMC elections, the party fielded such candidates who stood a chance of winning in the three local body elections. BJP has decided to go it alone in the elections as part of its bid to emerge as an alternative to Congress and TDP.
