Prime Minister, Governor, Chief Minister amongst other to visit the city
The entire Visakhapatnam city will be under security blanket for the next ten days on the eve of 95th Indian Science Congress. Nearly 4,800 police personnel drawn from eight districts will guard the city in view of the visit of several delegates including the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Governor, ND Tiwari and Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajaskehara Reddy.
Speaking to media, the City Police Commissioner, N Sambasiva Rao said that nearly 12 check posts were erected and nakabandhi was taken up across the city. Special police teams are formed to check lodges and keep a vigilant eye on vehicles movements and on suspicious persons. Arrangements are made for traffic restrictions during the movements of VVIPs on city roads.
Nine officials of the rank of the Superintendent of Police will monitor the security and traffic regulations arrangements during the event. In addition, 26 DSPs, 65 CIs, 242 SIs and 1700 police constables, 800 home guards, three companies of APSP and nearly 100 Armed Reserve Police personnel were drawn for the security arrangements. In addition, there will be an anti-sabotage teams comprising bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog teams and metal detection equipment. He added that the police would keep a tight vigil during the New Year celebrations on December 31 night and action would be taken against the offenders.
