Ex-convict arrested and property worth over Rs.10 lakhs recovered
The series of house breaking incidents that made the police restless achieved a break through with the arrest of one person who incidentally happens to be an en-convict. The police recovered gold ornaments and cash all worth over Rs.10 lakhs. Speaking to media on Monday, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, P Rama Rao said that the police arrested the prime accused M Lakshmana Rao on Sunday.
He said that the accused had committed 19 offenses in Kancharapalem Police station and IV Town police station limits. The modus operandi of the ex-convict is that he visit posh colonies during evenings and keep a watch. His targets were locked houses and he used screwdrivers to remove the door latches and window grills and commit the crimes. The accused is the native of S.Kota in Vizianagaram district and served a jail sentence for committing offenses at S.Kota, Salur and Viziangaram.
The DCP said the police also arrested gold merchant Sambamurty while his son is absconding. It was revealed that the two other accused, relatives of the accused had received the stolen property. He said the City Police Commissioner, N Sambasiva Rao announced rewards to the crime team from IV and V Town Police Station who are instrumental in the arrest of the accused.
