Stern action against school bus and auto rickshaw drivers violating norms
In a move to crack the whip on school buses and auto rickshaws which are ignoring the safety of children, the Transport Department officials will hold a special drive from September 1 to 15. According to sources, the Department will take stern action against the violators of norms as per government directions. Nearly, 600 school buses and more than 3000 auto rickshaws transporting students to their schools should be qualified and aged below 50 years.
According to the directions, every trip should have representatives from School management and parent's committee. Further, the bus should have permit, fitness and insurance certificates in addition window grills and other safety measures. The auto rickshaw drivers should also follow the similar rules.
The Deputy Transport Commissioner, S Venkateswara Rao asked the parents and managements of schools to be vigilant and ensure that school buses and autos conform to the norms. He urged the public not be panic if students fail to reach their destination in time due to checking or seizure of vehicles during the special drive.
