National Forum President to address public meeting on August 22
Traditional Fish Workers' Union will organize a village level campaign from August 14 to 20 protesting the implementation of the provisions of Coastal Zone Management. According to to National Fish Workers' Forum executive member TK Rehman, the forum's all India President will address a public meeting on August 22. He said that his visit is aimed at forging a common forum for fish workers, agricultural workers and adivasis.
He said that he will visit Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts on the next day. The forum has plans to take up agitation in the next month at New Delhi, Hyderabad and the local headquarters of the departments concerned.
Speaking to media, TK Rehman and secretary K Lakshmi on Monday that the campaign was a continuation of its August 9 nationwide protest against CZM. He said replacing the coastal Regulation Zone of 1991 with the CZM 2007 would deprive traditional fishermen of their livelihood.
