Shri Shastri is famous for his contributions to Sugar industry in India
Shri Chirravuri Vishwanath Shastri (CV Shastri), son of Late Rama Somayajulu and great grand nephew of Late Sir CY Chitamani a doyen amongst Sugar Technologists in India expired due to cardiac problems in the early hours of August 15, 2007 at his residence in Madhavadhara VUDA Colony in Visakhapatnam. He was 85.
Shri Sastri started his career as an engineer in Oudh Sugar Mills in Uttar Pradesh, one of the largest sugar factories in India, and belonging to the Birla Group. Later he worked in another sugar mill of the same group in Bihar and during his work there, he was credited with many innovative changes in the plants machinery vastly improving the mills performance. Thereafter, he worked as Chief Erection Engineer under the KCP Sugars and under his guidance and supervision, the sugar mills in Amdalavalasa and Nizamabad were setup. He also worked as the Chief Engineer of the co-operative sugar factory at Govada (Chodavaram) and Shri Krishna Co-operative Sugar Mills in Maharashtra, another very large sugar plant for several years. He was the Mechanical Consultant in JP Mukherjee Associate, Pune and he provided expertise to many sugar plants in India and abroad.
Settling down at Pune in Maharashtra he set up two sugar factory erection companies under the names of Ramon Rom Engineering and Ramon Rom Equipments and Services and had undertaken on turnkey basis many sugar factories in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh etc. Most of these factories are now working in a very efficient and profitable manner.
In his old age, he decided to wind up his sugar mills business and shift to Visakhapatnam where most of his kith and kin were settling. Shri Shastri's contribution in updating the technology of sugar plants thereby improving their profitability is immense. He was widely respected by people in the industry. He is survived by his wife, two sons and four daughters.
