CPI to launch on Friday
The Communist Party of India (CPI) will launch a padayatra from Umurevula tribal hamlet near Sileru in Visakhapatnam District and the borders of East Godavari on Friday to drum up support against the bauxite mining and alumina refinery at Makavaripaem by foreign company. CPI district secretary, JV Satyanarayana Murthy and Chintapalle MLA G. Demudu will lead the padayatra.
Another delegation accompanied by cultural troupes from the party will leave from Balapm near Chintapalle. The participants will hold meetings to sensitize tribals on the adverse impact of bauxite mining in Jurala and Saparla block of hills in the Eastern Ghats.
The padayatras will touch Darakonda, GK Veedhi and other interior villages and the programme will conclude near GK Veedhi mandal on May 4, 2007.
