Aims at creating awareness among people
The District Fire Officer, PV Ramana told the media on Friday that the Fire Service Week will be observed from Saturday. The Andhra Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services Department has chalked out a number of programmes to create awareness among the public in association with the Vizag Journalists' Forum and SPACE an NGO.
He said that the programmes were meant to reach out various sections as opposed to the traditional approach. The week would begin with a commemoration parade at Suryabagh. Fire appliances will be demonstrated at public places. He said as a part of the programme fire prevention inspections would be taken up in multi storeyed buildings on the Beach Road, Ramnagar and Naval Quarters and demonstrations would be organized in residential apartments on April 16 besides a massive campaign would be organized in 227 slums by involving corporators and conducting public meetings on the same day.
He further added that lecturers on prevention of fire would be organized in schools and fire drills conducted at colleges and other educational institutions on April 17 and on the next day, a seminar on 'Fire Safety in multi-storeyed buildings' sponsored by GITAM would be held. On the last day a seminar would be conducted at VUDA children's theatre he said.
