Tax payers have to file only one challan instead of four copies
The Visakhapatnam Zone Chief Commissioner of Central Excise and Customs PN Vittal Dass in a press release said that all the assesses of Central Excise who have paid Rs. 50 lakhs and above during 2006-07 should hereafter make their payments only by electronic payment system. He stated in the release that the changeover to the new system from April 1 and said that the Government had introduced the electronic accounting system in excise and service tax known as EASIEST scheme.
According to this new system, taxpayers have to file only one challan instead of four copies as earlier. Using the challan Identification Number, the tax payer can verify the status of tax payment on line. He further stated that a a liberalized electronic clearance scheme called Risk Management System is likely to be introduced for Vizag Port shortly.
According to the release, the tax collection in the zone consisting of 13 revenue districts of Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, he said the Central excise, customs and service tax collection was Rs. 10,189 crores and witnessed a growth of 16 percent in 2006-07. The revenue collection from the Central excise showed an increase of 15 percent while the service tax collection witnessed a growth of 49 percent. The customs collection witnessed 15 percent growth touch Rs. 2700 crores.
