Charged for cheating scrap dealers
The City Crime Station (CCS) police officials nabbed a former employee of Custom and Excise Department for cheating scrap dealers from Ongole to the tune of Rs. 3.7 lakhs. The police officials recovered two cell phones, five ATM cards a motorcycle, Rs. 5,000 in cash and fake rubber stamps of banks from him.
According to police sources, the accused who earlier worked as tax assistant was dismissed from service for misappropriation of Departmental funds and imposed two year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.1,000. However, he could get stay in this regard. The scrap dealers from Ongole approached him and sought a bulk sale of 100 metric tons of scrap from the Department.
The accused told them to buy scrap in installments and collected Rs 1.86 lakhs from them towards Customs Duty and later took another Rs. 1.56 lakh to buy the first installment of scrap deal. Even after several days, he failed to get the scrap. The victims approached the Central Crime Station officials in this regard who arrested him and his accomplice Srinivasa Rao and handed over to the Harbour police. The search for the rest of the three are going on.
