Steps taken to alleviate the plight of women
At a press conference, the State Women's Commission Chairperson Mary Ravindranath on Saturday said that the Andhra Pradesh ranked second in the country in terms of crimes against women as per the National Crime Records Bureau. She said that necessary steps were being taken to alleviate the plight of women.
She said that one fourth of the 3000 cases received by the Commission in the past one year related to sexual harassment at workplace and in addition several instances of misuse of Section 498(A) of IC came to the commission's notice. She said that the Commission was able to solve most of the cases and it showed concern towards the number of crimes against women.
She observed that women trafficking increased rapidly in the city in the recent times at par with bigger cities. She said that the proposal to conduct HIV tests for prospective couples would be in the best interests of the society.
