Indigenous aircraft to be inducted by 2011
The Indian Navy's combat capabilities will receive a major fillip when air craft carrier INS Vikramaditya will be inducted next year along with MIG airplanes and other facilities. An indigenous air craft is likely to be commissioned by 2011 said the Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju.
He was speaking to reporters after commissioning a Bangaram class fast attack craft INS Baratang, at the Naval Base on Tuesday, he said that India was striving to establish friendly relations with southereast Asian countries whose strategic importance and economic resurgence were crucial for peace and stability in the region
Maritime diplomacy with those small, but vibrant countries assumed greater significance in the context of the Look East Policy he asserted and added that effort were on for fleets' modernization with greater focus on the digitization. The new Naval Base requires 5000 acres and 500 more were acquired till now. Steps were taken to expedite the project of expansion of ENC headquarters.
