Baratang is a fast attack craft

The Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju will commission a Bangaram class fast attack craft, Baratang, at the Naval Base on Tuesday. This is the 4th ship in Bangaram class, designed by the Indian Navy's Directorate of A Naval design. It was built by M/s Gardenreach Ship Builders and Engineers of Kolkata.

The fast attack crafts are used for patrolling coastal waters, search and rescue, surveillance and rapid interception along the coast. The Baratang is 46 metre long 7.5 metre wide and displaces 320 tons. It has two MTU engines which are capable of producing speed in excess of 28 knots and for extended durations. The ship is fitted with the most modern and sophisticated navigational and communication equipment and a close range anti surface gun.
