12-foot Goddess Durga erected at the hilltop

The ten day Dasara celebrations that commenced on Sunday atop the Kailasagiri hills have drawn huge crowds who had a break from the hectic routine life. The celebration was organized by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) will be on till October 2, 2006.

A 12-foot tall statue of Goddess Durga was erected at the venue which captivated the public in large numbers. Performances of school children and magic show enthralled the visitors. The traditional folk arts –tholubmmalata, puliveshalu, Veedhi bhagothalu, karrasamu and chilakajosam by artistes from villages in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts received huge applause from the audience.
