1200 people to get employed by May 2007
The Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy expressed displeasure at the slow progress in the development of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Atchutapuram by Sri Lankan textile company Brandix. He said the Brandix, which was the team leader failed in providing at least fifty percent of the 60,000 jobs it promised to create before signing an MoU with the Government and bringing in a good number of companies which would create large scale employment.
Speaking to media he said that 1200 people would be employed by the end of May 2007 and 3000 more in the following year. The Government is eagerly waiting to provide jobs in SEZ on a large scale but he regretted that things are going on a slow pace. He said that some civil organizations were creating unnecessary controversies to stall various development projects. He claimed that the Uranium project proposed to be set up in Pulivendula was opposed not by the people but by those who were instigated by some civil organizations and like wise there was opposition to bauxite mining project in Visakhapatnam district and Peddagadda reservoir in Vizianagaram district and other development works from political parties which were unable to acknowledge the progress made by the Government.
