Brandix to invest $1.5 bn
The Srilankan textile giant Brandix will invest US $ 1.5 billion in Brandix India Apparel City (BIAC) project in the Special Economic Zone at Atchutapuram in Visakhapatnam district. It may be recalled that nearly 60,000 jobs will be provided as it had promised at the time of signing MoU with the State Government.
At a press conference on Friday, Brandix external relations officer Vinu Sudan said that 280 million tonnes of apparel would be produced per year and the company was on the course to make India its biggest hub in the South Asian garment Industry.
Brandix was inviting experts in apparel manufacturing and related services from across the world to set up operations in the SEZ. He said that in the month of August Brandix began the recruitment and training process of 200 female employees working with District Rural Development Agency, Visakhapatnam. This batch of trainees would commence commercial production by January 2007 and it demonstrates Brandix’s commitment to make India textile hub.
