CPI (M) district committee faxes memorandum to CM
The fishermen of Gangavaram boycotted an inquiry conducted by an IAS officer on the March 27 police firing at the village and the CPI (M) district committed faxed a memorandum to the Chief Minister to order a judicial probe.
The fishermen were called to attend the inquiry conducted by Principal Secretary, Priyadarshi Das at the Collectorate but the villagers including women turned up at the Collectorate under the leadership of four organizations and refused to attend the inquiry.
In the memorandum sent to the Chief Minister, secretary of the district committee of CPI(M) Ch Narasinga Rao said the reason for the agitation by the Gangavaram fishermen whose livelihood was affected due to construction of private port near the village and the incidents of lathicharge in which one person died and several injured. The police entered the village in the early hours on that day and provocation by them leads to firing and the District Collector and Commissioner of Police not able to deal with the issue in a proper manner he alleged.
