WiFi Services planned at three places
The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched its Broadband services in all district headquarters in the State. The Chief General Manager of AP Circle, RK Arnold at a press conference said on Wednesday that there are 61,640 working connections in 46 cities and towns in the State. The telecom provider is now planning to add 1.58 lakh new connections during the current year.
Mr. Arnold said that plans are on the way to provide Wi-Fi services at public places like airport, hotels and shopping malls on a pilot basis. These services would be launched at 21 locations in the state capital Hyderabad. Three locations in Visakhapatnam will soon be getting WiFi facility.
In regard to the number of working cellular connections, BSNL currently has 12.49 lakhs as against the capacity of 17.53 lakhs. As many as 1 lakh new mobile connections were sold only last month. New schemes were offered under Plan 39, Plan 599 and Plan 899 in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Hyderabad cities with effect from October 1, 2006. Subscribers would be given the benefit of making unlimited free calls to BSNL fixed/WLL phones within the SDCA, within AP Circle under the first two plans and additional free calls to BSNL cellular within AP Circle under the last plan.
