Poverty eradication is the need of the hour for growth of economy

Rangarajan calls on the Government

The Andhra University (AU) on Monday conferred honorary doctorates to renowned economist and former Governor C. Rangarajan, DRDO Chief Controller A. Sivathanu Pillai and noted film star Chiranjeevi at its 71st and 72nd convocation ceremony held at AU.

After receiving the degree of Doctor of Letters from Governor and Chancellor Rameshwar Thakur, Rangarajan said that the privileged to be felicitated by AU which had produced several stalwarts over the years and took the occasion to remind the government need to prepared for the socio economic challenges that were bound to happen in the changed global scenario. Rangarajan who is the chairman of Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister felt that the poverty remained a major roadblock and the Government should give top most importance on the issue for progress of economy of the country. He added that the government should ensure clean and corruption free governance to achieve the desired goals. The Governor of Andhra Pradesh presented Best Researcher Awards to professors and scholars and PhDs and gold medals to students.

AU had made arrangements by installing large TV Screens at the Engineering College grounds and Golden Jubilee grounds to witness the live programme of the convocation. The police did not find any difficulty in controlling the public. On the whole, the convocation was a grand success despite limited time, the university successfully mobilized the men and material thanks to the efforts of the Vice Chancellor Venugopal Reddy.
