Says SEZs would widen economic imbalances
The CPI State secretary K. Narayana on Wednesday said that they are opposing the proposal to set up 300 Special Economic Zone s (SEZs) across the country. He said that the SEZs would widen the economic imbalances and result in social unrest. Speaking at the ‘Meet the Press’ programme, he claimed that public property worth Rs.1.7 lakh crore would lost due the SEZs.
The government should strive for the welfare of the poor people but not for the rich industrialists, he commented. He demanded that the government should spell out its stand over the assigned lands which were in possession of big industrial groups. He asked the government to acquire those lands and utilize them for housing for the poor and middle class people. He said that he would launch an indefinite hunger strike seeking resolution of Kambirigam land row.
