Postman to deliver cash for Post Office Savings Account holders

The novel scheme of postman as the cash delivery agent for Savings Account holders of the Department of Posts was launched at Visakhapatnam, in line with all parts of the country. As per the scheme, a maximum of Rs. 5000 can be withdrawn at a time by paying a service charge of Rs. 20 per transaction. Savings account holders have to register specifically for this scheme. The account holders can dial their post office for the delivery of the cash.

The scheme was launched in Visakhapatnam and the document related to the 'Bank on Your Postman' scheme was handed over to the first customer by the Commissioner of Customs SC Choudary at a special function. AND Kachari, Post Master General, Visakhapatnam Zone said that the Department will be soon launching more customer-friendly schemes. He said that computerisation of Head and Sub-Post offices is underway.

The scheme is a novel way of reaching to the customers even better. In fact, many feel that the scheme now added value for having a savings account at the Post Offices. On the other hand, Post Office too feel that the service gives a human touch and a way to compete with the Banks who are using the Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) to dispense cash.
